Honors Program 2008-2009
- Highest Honor will be awarded to the student who earns the highest number of points.
- High Honor will be awarded to all students who earn a minimum of 550 points (7th grade and above) or 450 points (6th grade and below).
- Honor will be awarded to all students who earn a minimum of 425 points (7th grade and above) or 325 points (6th grade and below).
- Points may be earned for any of the following activities beginning September 1
and ending May 4. Students earning any of the above honors will be presented a trphy at the conclusion
of the school year.
- Points are accumulated weekly trhoughout the year for practice records, activities
in which you participate, activities you attend, and projects you complete.
Practicing (Accumulated weekly, including holidays)
- 10 - a minimum of 20 minutes daily, 6 days a week (2 hours) K-2nd grade only
- 10 - a minimum of 30 minutes daily, 6 days a week (3 hours) 3rd grade and above
- 15 - a minimum of 45 minutes daily, 6 days a week (4 1/2 hours)
- 20 - a minimum of 60 minutes daily, 6 days a week (6 hours)
Note: In order to receive your points, your practice record on your current assignment page
must be initialed or signed by a parent, and you must "Sign In" when arriving for lessions.
VARIOUS ACCOMPLISHMENTS
- 10 - Each solo performance (recital, talent show, church, school, retirement center, ...)
- 10 - Per category for entering any festival or competition.
- 5 - Attending an event in which you do not participate (band, symphony, chorus, recital,
ballet, theatre, visit to an art museum, exhibit,...) Bring me a program or note from
your parent to verify attendance.
- 20 - Enter the poster contest in May. Create a Poster inspired by a piece written by our
adopted composer. Use full-sized poster paper.
- 15 - On art paper, draw a picture that experesses your feelings of a favorite piece.
- 20 - Create a music game and share it with your group class at the end of the month.
- 40 - Composing, with my guidance, writing out correctly at the computer in "Encore",
and performing in recital an original composition.
- 20 - Extra points for writing out your original composition neatly by hand.
- 20 - Enter the cover contest for our annual composition book. On regular sized typing
paper draw a picture inspired by your original composition. Keep in mind that it should
be copiable.
- 5 - Listen to Public Radio (classical) or appropriate CDs or tapes for one hour.
(Does not have to be in one sitting) List titles, composers, and performers.
Answer these questoins briefly: Did you like it? Why or why not? This can
be repeated weekly for points.
- 5 - Each week an assigned Timed-Flash card test is successfully completed.
- ?? - Any similar endeavor will be awarded an appropriate number of points. Use your
imagination! I welcome your suggestions.
This honors program is designed to encourage regular practicing which ensures a pianist's success.
The wide array of activities provided in this studio are geared to enrich your pianist's musical
education and experince.
